The soft roar of the falls was distant, but could still be heard from behind Valterra's castle walls. The natural defense of the falls was also a beautiful reminder of the peacefulness of the area. Whenever Sophia had been stressed she found some way to make it outside by herself, instead of being swamped by guards. She was a woman, and she was a Queen thus making her a target, but she didn't want to be constantly reminded of this factor. She held her head high and let her soul relax with the sounds of spring. Nothing welcomed her more than the new beginnings. A sigh escaped her lips as she walked farther away from the castle doors, and yet she continued to think about where she stood with the Kingdoms at war. Here she was, housing the rightful King of Faylinn and the Princess, along with some of John's troops while they rallied up to fight against Valerie and her madness. She was probably the only Kingdom that hadn't made exactly clear that she would fight alongside King John. She sided with him, obviously... but she didn't want to get into it all. She knew her hesitating made the young King angry, she could see it in his eyes no matter how hard he tried to hide it. She thought fondly of his courage and strength, and she herself was not offended that he was angry with her. She respected the man and when the time came she was sure he would get the throne back, and everything would go back to normal... hopefully. Running her delicate hand through the petals of the new blooming flowers in her gardens, she hummed along to a silent song that was playing in her head. Her voice was soft, and she couldn't help but shudder a sense of relief. Getting away from the chaos did almost seem cowardice for a Queen to do, but it was only for a little while. She would only be out here for a while, then turn back and face her demons of running a Kingdom by herself. Nothing was meant to be easy. The birds sang in trees above her, and she looked up with a soft sense of a smile on her face before she leaned up against the strong oak, pulling at the ends of her dress sleeves, covering her new chilled hands. She thought about visiting her husband's grave while she was out here, but just the thought only brought back the consequences of what happened last time she had visited him. She wasn't stuck on the fact that he was dead, yes he was her lover at the time and both of them had run Valterra stronger than any generation before her, but he was dead... and had been for years now. She was running her Kingdom just fine and found it hard... but bearable... most of the time. She did not need anyone, alive or dead to be grabbing her attention away from her people. She was dedicated and sworn to them. She would die a horrible death for them, as long as they were to live a fair and healthy life Sophia was happy. Running her fingers along the groves of the oak, the Queen's thoughts then snapped to Samwell.. while she was on the subject of her dead husband. The thought halted her humming and she stared off into the wildflowers for a few blank moments before leaving the oak and walking farther away from the castle. She didn't know it, and wouldn't for awhile. She was in denial. Whether she thought her general and guard was just her best worker, it was obvious he was on her mind more than ever lately. Not only had he saved the Kingdom several times from tragedy with the way he ran her Military, but he had saved her life. She didn't want to act like one of those young Princess' falling in love with any charmer who was able to save her from something stupid. Her honor was too much for that. She loved her dead husband and swore never to love anyone after that. Not only because of the time it took, but because of her own heart would fail if yet another loved one was to die under someone else's cruelty. Samwell was a man who was always put in to danger. She could not get emotionally attached to him. It would be more than wrong. She wandered along the garden's path, knowing how it would be just a matter of time before she would need to head back again. A small fountain spewing out water came into view and the Queen took the moment to face it, listening to the gurgling of the water. She tilted her head slightly, holding out her hand and letting the cold stream of water touch her hand before it splashed into the pool of water below her. A breeze blew by, whipping her black curls around her face as she thought over and over again about the General.... words (###) tags (Sammy!!!!) muse (....) comments () lyrics (Aurora by Foo Fighters) template made by mercy of wonderland. |
