THE APPEARANCE
Mira's looks are fairly standard for an elf female of her age. She stands at about five feet nine inches, and is built quite skinny. Her frame is obviously suited for speed and agility, rather than brute strength. Indeed, she looks quite fragile... which she, of course, is totally fine with. After all, who's going to expect the skinny elf chick to be the one you need to worry about? Her eyes are a dark, nearly black shade of brown. Mira usually keeps her hair cut at just below her shoulder. Though her natural hair color is a dirty blond, she has a tendency to dye it as her work demands. Perhaps due to her upbringing, Mira prefers human fashion over that of elves, though she does consider much of female fashion to be utterly ridiculous. When on the hunt, Mira wears a tight fitting black leather outfit, complete with a hood. On the other hand, her daily attire consists of standard, middle-class clothing, usually of darker colors.
THE PERSONALITY
Mira is, in a word, a cheerful person. Perpetually in a good mood, Mira is almost always all smiles, never stopping to frown or cry over anything. However, this can come across as quite disturbing to those familiar with her, considering she has an unhealthy obsession with knives and murder. Even more unsettling is the fact that she maintains this cheerfulness even in circumstances that she really shouldn't, such as in the middle of butchering her targets. Where others might threaten another person in a serious matter, she will make her threats while giggling and obviously looking forward to actually going forth with them.
Unlike many of her kind, Mira has no distaste for humans. Indeed, it is quite the opposite in her case. Having been born in the midst of human life, and having had a human as a mentor, she has absolutely no issue with them. That humans make up the majority of her victims is mere coincidence, brought about by the fact she frequents human kingdoms more than her own race's lands. However, just because she was raised by humans does not mean she does not like elves any less either. She discriminates not, for to her, all life is equal. She cares not whether or not you are a human, or a Feanaro, or an elf. So long as they are able to bleed for her, she considers them all the same.
Aside from committing multiple acts of murder, Mira also deeply enjoys other activities. These include reading, painting, flirting with both men and women, knife throwing, drinking, and torturing innocent bystanders she happened to find when she was bored.
Unlike many who exhibit the same tendencies as her, Mira is no sociopath... just a bit demented. She is fully capable of relating to others on an emotional level, and is completely understanding of social norms. She just chooses to ignore them for the most part. In regards to love, Mira has a tendency to fall for someone at the drop of a hat. The main problem is that the relationships she tends to have are rather unhealthy for a normal person. When she decides she loves someone, she treats them with complete adoration, and often times, will obsessively devote herself to them, regardless of how they treat her in return. Indeed, she tends to respond more positively towards more abusive relationships, showcasing masochistic tendencies. Unfortunately for the people she falls for, her tendency to fall for people quickly usually means that the objects of her affection are only such for a small period of time. And when she decides she's done with loving someone, well... she decides they're done with life.
THE HISTORY
BIRTH REALM: Faeryn
BIRTH KINGDOM: Everfell
Born in the town of Everard, in the kingdom of Everfell, Mira seemed to be destined to be just another elven maiden. Originally named Jocasta Absolon, she was the daughter of a pair of elves who had fled the elven civil war some ten years prior. Mira's parents had taken to Everard quite quickly, noting that although it was much, much different from the forest they knew and loved, it had a charm that they had not seen anywhere in their native land. The two of them were delighted when their daughter was born, and were excited to be able to complete a small little family. Unfortunately for them, the joy they felt was not meant to last.
When Mira was but ten months old, a small group of bandits assaulted her family's farm, stealing all that they could carry. While most people would have surrendered their money and goods with little trouble, Mira's father would not. A proud man, he refused to allow someone to threaten him or his family, especially in his own home, and attempted to defend his home. Unfortunately for him, though he was a skilled and honorable combatant, the bandits fought much, much less fair, and stabbed him in the back while he fought. His wife, driven mad by the sight of her husband being cut down, rushed the bandits in anger. In her blind fury, she was quickly disabled, and killed as well.
Realizing that they had just escalated from robbery to murder, the bandits fled, as they had no doubt that retribution from the guard would be swift and merciless. Mira was left in her crib, forgotten and alone.
At least, for a little while.
After some time, members of the Everard guard went to investigate the reported disturbance at the Absolon farm house. When they arrived, the leader discovered Mira in the upstairs room, alone and completely frightened. This young guard, Lieutenant Jaxson Phrix, took pity on the young girl, and took her in as his own. In his life, Jaxson had seen hundreds of men and women killed, their children left with nowhere to go. For once, he thought, he would take in a child and ensure that they never had to go through what those children had to. Renaming her Mira Alizabeth, Jaxson brought the baby home and set about being a good father.
While one could easily assume Mira's life would be simple after that, they would be wrong. You see, being an officer of the guard was simply a... side job, as he would put it. In truth, it was more a cover. By day, he was Jaxson Crayder Phrix, Lieutenant of the Guard and respectable member of society. By night... he was Khaine, assassin-for-hire. It was a quite effective way of living, in his mind. Who would assume that a man of the guard would be a notorious killer? Not many people, that's for sure.
Due to this night job of his, Jaxson would often find himself away from home, leaving his adopted daughter in the care of a trusted caregiver. It was regrettable, but it was the job he loved, and he couldn't give it up. Eventually, when Mira began to get older, however, Jaxson had an idea. If he couldn't spend time with his daughter because of his two jobs, what if he brought her along with him? More specifically, what if he trained her in his arts, so that they could be together more often? While most parents would likely abhor the idea of placing their daughter in such a career, Jaxson had no such reservations about it. He would train his daughter to be like him.
Mira was utterly and completely thrilled when her father came to her one night with his little idea. She adored her father, and the small amount of time she was with him, was the time she loved the most. She would do anything to spend more time with him, and the fact that anything in this case was something she was in awe of made her way more than happy to agree. She was to spend time with her father, and learn to do just what he did! In her eyes, there was nothing better that could happen.
Over the course of several years, Jaxson taught his daughter the skills she would find necessary in his line of work. At first, he worked on things such as improving her flexibility, and moving without the slightest sound. This allowed her to sneak alongside him as he hunted his victims, something which the girl found to be highly entertaining. Her favorite part, however, was watching as her father made his strike, seeing the expression of surprise in the victims just before they died. It made her extremely happy. Eventually however, simply going out with her father on his contracts was not enough. She wanted to have a more direct hand in things. A personal touch to their evenings together, if you will.
So it was that Mira made her first kill at the age of fourteen, a noble man who had crossed the wrong person one too many times. To this day, it remains her favorite, and she can remember it with perfect clarity.
As a reward for her actions, Mira's father gifted her with a set of blades of her own, several knives of various sizes, razor sharp and lethal as could be. In addition, she was given the knife she had used to perform the kill, one of her father's favorite blades, a gift which she was utterly grateful for. Indeed, it quickly became one of her most treasured possessions, and for quite some time, her preferred execution weapon.
For several years, they were a team, and a darn good one at that, eliminating target after target, performing contract after contract. Eventually, Jaxson dubbed Mira an expert in her own right, a declaration that made Mira practically die in excitement. Her father had told her she was as good as him! That was one thing she had always hoped, but never expected, to hear, and she took it to heart. She was an expert, and nobody could stop her.
Like all good things however, their partnership would not last for much longer. When Mira was eighteen, together her and her father accepted a contract on a retired old soldier. It was supposed to be a simple stalk and stab, a quick murder to fill the time between high value targets. Unfortunately for them, it was a set up. The soldier himself, a member of a noble family who had taken losses from Mira and Jaxson in the past, had put out the contract, in an attempt to gain revenge. Mira and Jaxson had no idea what they were getting into, and treated it like any other mission.
When they entered the estate the soldier lived in, everything seemed to be exactly as it should. The guards were all at their posts, the lights were all out, and the soldier was in his bed, asleep. When Jaxson went to go for the kill, Mira kept a lookout at the bedroom door for any guards. As it seemed like the coast was clear, she turned back to watch her dad perform the kill. It was in this small moment that she felt someone grab her from behind, and felt a hand fall across her mouth. The next thing she knew, a crossbow bolt flew into the room from behind her, hitting her father dead center of his back, just as the soldier leapt from his bed with a knife. Before he could recover, Jaxson was stabbed in the gut by the soldier, killing him.
Mira, absolutely devastated at the sight before her, flew into a hysterical rage. She bit down on the hand of the man who restrained her, kicked him in the knee, drew her knife, and slashed his throat. The man with the crossbow was dropped from a pair of throwing knives to the chest. The soldier who killed her father was caught by surprise, but even so, was able to block her first few strike before she impaled her stiletto knife into his neck. With the three men dead, she dropped to her knees by her adoptive father, and began to sob. Her father had meant everything to her. He had taken her in, raised her as his own, trained her in the art she loved so very much, and was now a lifeless husk.
Eventually, she managed to gather enough of her wits to realize she was in danger, and needed to leave. Unfortunately for the rest of the inhabitants of the estate, she was still furious. She would leave alright. But every person who lived in the place was coming with her.
After that night, Mira decided to quit her career. She believed that she was not worthy of continuing her father's legacy, a legacy that, she believed, had come to an end because of her failure to warn her father in time. For the first few weeks, she was a wreck, breaking out in tears at the slightest of things, unable to do anything except that which was necessary to survive, and even then, she hated doing it. On the fifth week, however, she stumbled across a journal, a journal that her father had apparently wrote in for her. She spent the next few days going through it, reading everything her father had wrote down, taking in every last detail. When she reached the end, she found that her father's only wish for her was that she continue on with what they had done together, that no matter what happened to him, to keep a smile on her face, and keep going.
The moment she read those words, Mira's attitude changed. Her moping, her crying, it would have disappointed her father. And if there was one thing she did not want to do, it was that. Shoving all of her sadness away, as deep as she could keep it, Mira but on a smile for her father.
Now, no matter how many people she kills in his name, no matter how many contracts she takes, that smile remains.
Forever and always.
